How Bread Is Made In Ikaria

Ikaria is one of Dan Buettner’s Blue Zones, where people tend to live long and healthy lives. It’s a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, actually closer to Turkey than the Greek mainland.

Here’s Buettner showing how they make bread in Ikaria:

The people of Ikaria are Eastern Orthodox, as are the people of Crete, so they also restrict consumption of meat, dairy, olive oil, and alcohol for over half the year.

Yes, she is fully involved in the task at hand, purposeful indeed. I wonder how many times in her life she has baked bread. And the previous post re the harvest and preparation of wheat flour in Greece was mind-boggling at the amount of work involved from start to finish. We know nothing of a full day’s work compared to that! Guess I should speak for myself on that one. Many people do work very hard.

I would guess that the woman in this video spent more hours of her life working, physically working, than I have. It may end up being to her benefit.
