The comic strip Non Sequitur by Wiley Miller, from November 10 to 22, had Bob struggling with weight gain:
Trying to eat better:
Ending up in the hospital:
Considering his options:
And opting against the $200,000 surgery, bypass brain, rehab, and lifelong medications.
Just a comic?
Thanks to RB!
The older I get, the more people I know like Bob. The heart attack is always a surprise. But most don’t make the choice Bob made. I think it’s a difficult decision, especially when you’re in the hospital hooked up to an IV, surrounded by experts with clipboards and white coats and medical paraphernalia. You think … how could what I eat be any more effective than a stent?

I miss Non Sequitur, our local paper doesn’t carry it, but loved it in past years . Thanks for this today, I agree–too many unlike Bob consistently making the wrong choices, i.e., the easy fix. And tradition usually wins out in peoples’ minds, at least in many that I know. They are guided by what their family has always done–diet, politics, sports–so many things.

Life without bacon isn’t worth living! …
I wonder if the strip’s author is going through this. It sounds so real.

Thanks, RB. After sending my comment I belatedly realized it’s probably online. Just goes to show part of my brain still resides in the before-computer age. Good news though, can see it anytime.
