Anyone and everyone who takes a dietary supplement should watch this. As I’ve been saying for years, there is no guarantee that what the bottle says is in the bottle really is in the bottle. Aside from that, there is no regulatory agency that is overseeing the safety and effectiveness of supplements (assuming you are getting what you think you’re getting).
I don’t know how long this video will remain public, but here’s Frontline’s investigation:
FRONTLINE, The New York Times and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation examine the hidden dangers of vitamins and supplements, a multibillion-dollar industry with limited FDA oversight.
If that video goes down, here’s a link to PBS’ Frontline site “Supplements and Safety.”
What surprised me about this was a simple bottle of B vitamins, not a bodybuilding or weight loss concoction, was laced with steroids, was making people sick and sending them to the hospital. And the FDA didn’t require them to stop selling it, and they chose not to stop selling it.
