Paul McCartney (a member of the British rock group known as The Beatles, popular in the 1960s, because I realize there are people who never heard of him) said:

“I’ve often said, if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian. Animals raised on modern factory farms and killed in slaughterhouses endure almost unimaginable suffering.”

I wish slaughterhouses had glass walls. I wish food production didn’t have to be this way.

Speaking of McCartney, his song, Hey Jude, has been an utter earworm for me lately. This part especially:

” … and anytime you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain, don’t carry the world upon your shoulders. For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool by making his world a little colder.”

It’s thought that McCartney wrote this song to comfort John Lennon’s young son Julian who was coping with his parents divorce. But the words seem applicable to many situations, and many phases in life. Do you think?

It’s unimaginable to me that people knowingly subject animals to such conditions. Not just pigs, but cattle, chickens–even fish. Sometimes I think that it would be just if such perpetrators would come back in another life as the exact form of creature they torture. The coverage of all of this is becoming more available to consumers, let’s hope it has an effect.
